Give each installer the same starting brief
Describe the room, the layout you want and which fittings you expect to replace. Include your preferred wall and floor coverage and any access issues. If one quotation keeps the toilet in place while another moves it, you are comparing different work. Make those differences visible before deciding which total appears better value.
Identify the actual products
Ask for brands or product references, sizes, finishes and quantities where they have been selected. If an allowance is used, establish what it covers and how an alternative changes the total. Check small items such as taps, wastes, screens, trims and handles. A vague description like “bathroom suite” leaves too much room for different assumptions.
Check preparation and removal
The quotation should explain removal of existing fittings, disposal and the preparation included for walls and floors. Ask how hidden damage will be handled. Check whether making good outside the main work area is included. These details matter particularly when a change exposes surfaces that the old bath, vanity or enclosure previously covered.
Clarify who does and supplies what
Record which products you supply, who accepts deliveries and who coordinates each part of the work. Ask what installation checks and relevant documentation will be provided. Confirm the arrangements for resolving a damaged or incompatible customer-supplied item. Clear responsibilities make a practical difference if a problem appears during fitting.
Read the commercial details as well as the total
Check that applicable charges are clear, and note exclusions, payment stages and the validity of the quotation. Ask how additional work will be agreed before it proceeds. Read any product and workmanship warranty terms separately: do not assume they cover the same things or come from the same provider. Keep a copy of the final agreed version.
Use a simple comparison sheet
Create columns for each quotation and rows for products, preparation, fitting, waste, finishing, schedule, exclusions and payment stages. Mark missing information as a question rather than treating it as included. Once the scope is aligned, you can compare the proposals with a much clearer understanding of what each one delivers.
